Enjoy the holidays with the ones that count!

Here we are at the holidays, which we all look forward to, but somehow many of us torture ourselves, by trying to be perfect and all things to everyone.

I discovered several years ago to let perfection go.  It is too tiring to try to please everyone.  And the truth of the matter is that not everyone is that important to me.  So why stress about it?


Throughout the year I try to practice random acts of kindness, do the very best I can with whatever I am doing at the moment, and not look back.  I do not have time for regrets.
And do you know what I discovered?  I feel better physically.  People seem to like me bettter, and feel more comfortable with me.  Maybe I appear more genuine and friendly.

I recently left one job for another.  Even tho
I did not spend a long time at the job, I feel
as if I am leaving friends that I will continue
to keep in touch with.  They are important to
me, and I care what happens to them.

co-workers after I admired her huge talent.

So, during this very busy time of the year,
spend it with the people you cherish, let past
transitions go, and just enjoy the moment!

Remember, our friends are chosen, our
families give us our memories. Make
them good ones!

Inspiration

For me, my inspiration comes from many things.  A new box of crayons for my grandson,  the evening  sky with it's different textures and colorations, or the work of another designer that I admire.

Barry Dixon is one of those designers.
His work is always honest in the interpretation of the space and the clients he is working with.  He inserts his talent using all of the appropriate design elements, but lets the work be driven by the architecture and personality of his clients.

There are many fine designers, some local and some international in the work they do.
But the results are always an inspiration to those of us who understand what it takes to pull together a project.  All of the ball juggling of various contractors, suppliers, weather, and all of the personalities involved.

And all of the characteristics of a fine designer pertain to all of us every day.  Life is so much easier if we are organized, listen more than we speak, think outside the box to find solutions for difficult problems.

New season, new beginnings

Well, here I am going back to design again.  I needed a break and thought I wanted to do something different for awhile, but design really is my passion!

So, today I started a new job at Bassett Furniture in Concord NC.  They have so many options, fabrics, accessories, rugs, window treatments...I just felt like I was in a candy store!

And the truth is, that I can play with fabrics all day long, and make my clients really happy with the results.

Above is a sitting area in my daughter's home.  She has a very active family, and we needed something to be versatile and stand up to the everyday use of an active child, dog and friends.  These rustic mixed materials work well, and it is so cozy to sit and read a book in the sunshine, and late in the evening watch the deer in the backyard.
